British Prime Minister David Cameron told parliament said the government is looking at whether there should be limits on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook if they are being used to spread disorder. (Aug. 11)

So what was good for Cairo is bad for London, eh? I doubt it was by social media at all. Too much chance for exposure. More likely, it was by anonymous cell phone calls.

Rather the civilians had an opportunity for success or not that does not justify their act of violence and graffiti. If you want a meaningful riot, march and demonstrate not steal and burn. If you act like animals you will be locked away like animals. Such vandalism will not come with righteousness.

When will the law & order types learn that it is much better to co-opt traditionally marginalized and disaffected groups into a society than to make weak, meaningless, and ultimately futile attempts to impose more heavy handed law & order. Beyond the hooliganism and criminal activity, the underlying problem is there is a large group of people who have almost no regard for the rules of society because they justifiably believe society has no regard for them.
